In the summer of 2017, I began creating paintings that featured the word ‘YOU’ in both Farsi and Latin scripts.

This poem captured my attention because I realised that living in The Netherlands as an Iranian had blurred my sense of identity. I no longer felt fully Iranian or Dutch, but rather a stranger in between.

The word ‘YOU’ can reflect a person or be addressed to another. It carries different connotations across cultures.
